Omar Ali

As Head of Payers at Verpora, Omar works with pharmaceutical and life sciences organisations to shape access strategy, value communication and pricing negotiations across global markets. Drawing on more than 30 years of experience from the payer perspective, including a decade at the internationally recognised HTA body NICE, he supports clients in navigating payer expectations and developing practical access strategies. Omar leads Verpora’s global network of more than 150 current and former payers across EU, US, EMEA, APAC and LATAM, supporting both the Access Strategy and Business Insights arms of the business.

Over the past 25 years he has supported more than 100 pharmaceutical and life sciences organisations worldwide. He is particularly valued for translating payer expectations into clear, actionable strategies that strengthen value propositions, improve negotiation readiness and support sustainable patient access to medical technologies.

He hosts the Payer Exchange Podcast and leads Verpora’s IC Fireside Chat video series, exploring real-world access and pricing challenges with payers and industry leaders. He is also a frequent speaker on innovative contracting and value-based agreements at international conferences and senior industry forums, including the American Managed Care Association (US), World Orphan Drug Congress (Barcelona), European Pricing & Access (Amsterdam), and US commercial contracting leadership events such as Rainmaker (Model-N) and PPIC (Eversana/Navlin).

He has been a visiting lecturer on payer value frameworks and innovative contracting methodologies at several universities, including Portsmouth, UCL, Lisbon and Barcelona Business School. His work has appeared in Pharmacy in Practice, Guidelines in Practice and The Canadian Journal of Population Therapeutics and Clinical Pharmacology. He has authored more than 35 publications, including his PhD thesis paper, Establishing the cost of implementing a performance-based managed entry agreement for a hypothetical CAR T-cell therapy.

Omar brings a distinctive understanding of payer decision-making, helping life sciences teams pressure-test value propositions and explore access strategies and pricing corridors in a safe, constructive environment.
