ACCESS EU ’26 brings together senior market access leaders, policymakers, and industry decision-makers to examine the strategic, regulatory, and commercial challenges shaping patient access across Europe. With more than 70% of attendees at Vice President level or above, the event provides a forum for executive-level discussion on topics including Joint Clinical Assessments (JCA), EU health policy, AI in market access, global pricing dynamics, and the changing frameworks influencing access strategy.
Verpora’s Head of Payers, Omar Ali, joins an expert faculty to deliver an interactive workshop exploring the future of cell and gene therapy commercialisation. Alongside David Meek and Omar Dabbous, he will examine why many promising therapies continue to face access barriers despite strong clinical outcomes, and introduce the ACCESS Framework as a practical model for improving payer confidence, reimbursement readiness, and long-term commercial sustainability.
WORKSHOP / DAY TWO Thursday, 7 October, 11:45 AM – 1:00 PM
WS 3: – Where We Failed, How to Win, and Why Invest
Speakers: David Meek, Omar Ali, Omar Dabbous, MD, MPH
Cell and gene therapies promise curative outcomes yet face commercial instability rooted in access economics failures—pricing friction, reimbursement gaps, and delivery bottlenecks driving recent industry exits (Pfizer, Takeda, biotechs) amid escalating regulatory and political volatility, not scientific inadequacy.
The ACCESS Framework (Affordability, Coverage, Capacity, Evidence, Systems, Sustainability) provides a systematic model to restore payer trust, secure reimbursement pathways, and attract sustainable capital despite policy uncertainty. Through real-world cases and interactive exercises, this session integrates fair value assessment, budget impact modeling, operational readiness, and investor alignment strategies to ensure long-term CGT viability.
Session objectives:
Diagnose the structural and strategic causes of gene therapy commercialization failure, focusing on the EU.
Articulate the new investor narrative for sustainable gene therapy commercialization.
Prioritize key interventions for HTA and payer alignment and evidence-generation planning.
Critically evaluate how the ACCESS Framework can be used to assess an asset's or program's access readiness.
